Melbourne Renegades vs Adelaide Strikers

The Strikers won by 32 runs at Geelong, handing the Renegades their third consecutive loss.

Melbourne Renegades vs Adelaide Strikers

Defending champions Adelaide Strikers have been left to rue reckless run-outs in their BBL clash with Melbourne Renegades in Geelong.
The Strikers appeared primed to put on a big score at GMHBA Stadium when Jake Weatherald and Alex Carey put on 64 for the opening wicket.
But Carey’s dismissal precipitated a collapse with Jake Weatherald (71) and Matt Short both run out after failing to ground their bats.
Big-hitters Colin Ingram and Jake Lehmann then fell cheaply as the Strikers were restricted to 6-158 off their 20 overs - a total restored somewhat by tailender Rashid Khan’s entertaining cameo of 21 not out which included two sixes. Weatherald had been eyeing the first century of the BBL season after helping himself to three sixes and six fours on the ground’s short square boundaries. The left-hander cursed himself as he departed courtesy of some sharp fielding from Usman Shinwari and Renegades wicketkeeper Sam Harper.

Having won the toss and elected to bowl, the Renegades made hay with a tight bowling effort led by legspinner Cameron Boyce (2-16).

The fifth-placed Strikers have fielded two leg spinners.

Liam O’Connor has been picked for his first game of the season along with star Afghan tweaker Rashid, who is mourning the recent death of his father. Dumped Test opener Aaron Finch is yet to rejoin the sixth-placed Renegades after being overlooked to face India in Sydney  AAP
